Hybrid vehicles, available now
A conventional engine assisted by a small electric motor and battery — no plug required, better fuel economy, particularly around town.
A standard hybrid recharges its battery from braking and the engine itself, so there's nothing to plug in and nothing to plan around. The efficiency gain is most noticeable in stop-start London traffic, where the electric motor takes the strain at low speeds. It's a lower-risk step than a plug-in hybrid or full EV for a short agreement, because there's no charging behaviour to adopt at all.
