An electric car subscription is an all-inclusive monthly agreement for an EV, covering the vehicle, servicing and maintenance, road fund licence, warranty and breakdown assistance, with a short minimum term and a rolling monthly structure afterwards. You supply insurance and electricity. It's the standard way to test whether an electric car suits your mileage, journeys and charging setup before committing to a multi-year agreement — particularly relevant if you're weighing up ULEZ costs on a petrol or diesel car you already run.

A subscription is a test, not a destination. If six months tells you an EV works, two things become worth looking at:
- A 12 month fixed lease — the same car, materially less per month, once you're confident about the commitment.
- Salary sacrifice — if you're employed and your company runs a scheme, this is by some distance the cheapest way for an employee to have an electric car, because payments come out of gross salary and the benefit-in-kind rate on EVs is very low.

Because the biggest unknowns with an EV — real-world range on your actual journeys, whether you can charge conveniently in London, and what it truly costs per mile — only reveal themselves once you live with one. Six months on a subscription answers all three, with a clean exit if the answer is no.
No. You pay for electricity exactly as you'd pay for fuel on a petrol car. Everything else — servicing, road tax, warranty, breakdown cover — is included.
Generally yes, thanks to far fewer moving parts and no oil changes or exhaust system. That's already reflected in EV lease pricing, so don't expect a separate saving to show up on top.
Electric vehicles attract a far lower benefit-in-kind percentage than petrol or diesel cars, which is why they're so effective as company cars and through salary sacrifice. Rates are set by HMRC and change over time, so check the current figure — or ask us and we'll confirm it against your P11D value.
You give notice and hand it back. That's the entire reason to start with a subscription rather than a three-year lease. A wrong EV decision on a long contract is an expensive mistake; on a subscription it's a month's notice.
