A 9 month car lease spreads the vehicle's depreciation across nine payments rather than six, so the monthly figure is noticeably lower than an equivalent 6 month agreement, without committing to a full year. It's a well-used term for secondments, maternity or paternity cover, and academic years that run September to May or June.
